Google outs new fresh algorithm. It is said to be major search engine alteration by Google when compared to last Panda update which had huge impact over the search results. The update was available on Google’s official blog. If to go by this announcement then the freshness update will affect the search results by huge 35%.

‘Fresh’ If to go by the name means updated. Similarly, this Google algorithm puts light on suggesting the search results with “Fresh” element in it. This is user oriented approach by Google and is natural and inclined in the era of social networking. We mark our presence on the social network to seek answer ‘What is the new happening?’ We enter virtual world to know, what is happening across the globe and this whole idea is backed by Google in its new algorithm.

News and brands sites have come up as winners; courtesy – Google’s Freshness update. This new update backs the sites with fresh and recent content. Site Search Metrics has calculated the visibility scores of websites. The calculation has been made public after analyzing over millions of keywords. To name few sites that have been at the edge of gain are Dominos.com, Hotels.com, Squidoo.com and many more. However, the sites which lost the SEO visibility are Americanexpress.com, radioshack.com and blogger.com by the freshness algorithm.

Here are some points which are worth considering and optimizing your pages to make them Google friendly.

Recent events or trending topics: Google search results will now boost those pages which are minutes old. A user finding about the current or prevailing hot topic will now be able to get freshest of the lot. Latest information can now be traced easily.

Recurring events: Users now do not have to browse through irrelevant searches while looking for any specific information. Some activities recur and users seek for the updated information and not the one which took place long back. For instance, user searching for ’Election’ will automatically have results pertaining to 2011. So, it can be better summed that without specifying, it is understood that you seeking for new and updated dates for election.

Frequent updates: Users hook to Google for personal searches, which might not be hot or recurring but need to be updated for instilling them with something new. For example, if you’re researching for any electronic gadgets then you are looking for most up to date information.

  2. I like what google is doing. Making it harder for spammers to manipulate the system which is the reason webmasters have to work so hard for search engine rankings. The panda update is coming down hard on duplicate content.
    Fresh content makes sense. Look how high local and national news websites are valued by Google. They are updated by the hour.

    I’ve seen a big drop in some of my neglected blogs which aren’t been updated very often. Conversely, the sites which are been updated regularly are seeing improvement, so seems to check out.
